Understanding Your Electricity Bill

Electricity tariffs in Sri Lanka are tiered. This means the more you use, the higher the rate per unit becomes. Our tool visualizes this "staircase" pricing.

  1. Enter Units: Find the "KWH" usage figure on your last bill or meter reading.
  2. Check Breakdown: See how the cost is split across different blocks (e.g., first 30 units are cheap, next 30 are more expensive).
  3. Customize Rates: If tariffs change (CEB/LECO often update rates), click the Settings icon to update the block rates and fixed charges yourself.

How to Save Money?

  • Stay in Lower Blocks: The first 60 units are significantly cheaper. Try to keep your consumption below 90 units to avoid the steep jump in prices.
  • Identify Heavy Users: Use our Energy Cost Calculator to find which appliances are pushing you into the higher tiers.

Are these rates accurate?

We use the standard residential tariffs (CEB 2024). However, fuel adjustments or surcharges may apply depending on government policy. Use the "Settings" to add extra charges if needed.

Is this for Domestic or Industrial?

This calculator is pre-set for Domestic (Residential) users. Industrial or General Purpose categories have different flat rates which can be configured in the settings.
